Children with ASD learn differently. They may not have enough intrinsic motivation to learn; they may not pick up information and skills naturally by observation; most of them are not 1-trial learners; many of them find it difficult to learn in a group setting. In order to help the children with ASD to learn effectively, teaching must be individualized and systematic. However, effective teaching strategies are often applied either too rigidly or too loosely. Even though children could pick up the skills taught, their performance may not be generalized to different settings and people, robotic responses are often observed, teaching becomes overly repeated and monotonous.

Maximum result is compatible with natural and fun teaching. Children often acquire skills more rapidly when they enjoy the learning process. This workshop is designed for participants to use more varied, natural, flexible yet systematic strategies to teach children with ASD to learn effectively.

This workshop will include video presentation, role-play, discussion, and real time teaching.

Mr. Raymond Fung (M.S. ABA, BCBA) Clinical Director, Autism Partnership Philippines

Raymond is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with a Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis from St. Cloud State University. After he graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 2000, he started teaching individuals with ASD of different ages and functioning levels in 1 on 1, group and school settings at Autism Partnership. Since 2004, he has been specializing in professional training for therapists, supervisors, schoolteachers, and parents internationally. He provides consultation in China, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines and South Africa. Raymond has been receiving on-going training from Dr. Ron Leaf and his associates. In 2014-15, Raymond has developed 6 mobile applications specially designed for individuals with ASD. Recently, he has developed a school-based social skill program for local secondary school students called ‘ACTION!’ He is also taking his doctoral study at University of Bristol in education. Currently, he is the behavioral consultant of AP Hong Kong, the clinical director of AP Philippines, the conference chair of Hong Kong Association for Behavior Analysis and a member of Association for Behavior Analysis International.
