Hugo’s Story

Our Hugo was diagnosed with autism at 2 ½ years old. With hardly any eye contact, speech or interest in anyone or anything around him, he was in his own world. Words cannot express the emptiness and helplessness we felt as parents.

We knew we had to do something and quickly if he was to have a chance. Of all the directions we could have taken, we were extremely fortunate to have been guided toward applied behaviour analysis (ABA) therapy. But the key question was who could we go to?  We saw a ray of hope when we found the wonderful people at Autism Partnership in Singapore.

Altogether, Hugo received home-‐based ABA for eight months with AP Singapore. From the caring therapists who worked tirelessly with him day-‐in and day-‐out to the dedicated supervisors who constantly updated us on his progress and offered constructive advice, to the invaluable and very practical training made available to parents, AP was absolutely wonderful.  During this critical time, we saw the building blocks of development being created right before us and Hugo’s eye contact, engagement and communication all showed tremendous improvement.

We ended up moving back to my hometown Montreal after that where Hugo has continued to get great ABA therapy and to build on all the things he learned at AP. He has since gone from strength to strength and is today a very cheerful, curious and playful little boy!  Earlier this year, Hugo turned 5 years old and we were so proud to see him start kindergarten at a regular school, learning side-‐by-‐side with his peers.

We honestly cannot say enough good things about AP. If it were not for them, Hugo would not be where he is today. AP, you were there when we needed you most and we will be forever grateful.
